Destiny Bound- Love in War by Olamide Ojo

Short Description: Born to different warring kingdoms, Neman and Limera were born to be enemies but by way of faith they defended for one another. Faith collided with destiny and made the reality of the two unlikely friends become intertwined as they face love’s odds.

Chapter 1 of Destiny Bound
Destiny Bound- Love in War by Olamide Ojo

“You need to move faster so you can jump higher! The
wind is our most trusted ally! Little Neman moved as fast
as he could while he defended himself against Dilanta, his
father. Using a stepping stone to jump as high as he could
to the next boulder, Neman propelled himself to thrust his
sword forward, right towards his father’s chest.
“Not fast enough boy!” Dilanta said as he dodged the
disadvantaged attacker’s weak endeavor by shifting his body
so that he misses and falls to the ground. Neman maneuvered
his body so that he lands on a flat surface, rolling over to
the ground safely. The young fighter bravely climbed
towards the top in pursuit of his father.

“You need to be faster! Dilanta shouted, “Your strength
alone is useless but your mind working together with your
body will make you invisible!” Neman gasped for air as he
tried to speak: “I need to rest for tomorrow Father.” “Focus
on the present boy!” Dilanta yelled, “For the
future depends on it! Now, quick, come to me!”
Neman reached the peak of the mountain.
“That was really slow.” Dilanta said, “you are yet to
perfect the ways of the wind. Come, let us go home to your
mother. Her healing hands will dress your sore legs,”
Dilanta commanded.

They went towards a safe passage known only by the
Pelitans.
“What is going to happen tomorrow?” Neman asked. “You
ask too many questions.” His father replied, “Do not be in
such haste for your destiny cannot outrun you.” Neman did
not always understand the answers his father provided him.
“I know you do not have your armor yet but I am sure
your mother has taught you well” Neman agreed.
Luciana, Neman’s mother was a beautiful and caring
woman. Neman had always heard his father say to his
friends that her long hair and beautiful legs were her
most delightful physical attributes.

“Here, comes my little warrior.” Luciana praised, “He
has braved the cold mountains and the scorching sun.”
She then hugged him.
“You exchange greetings like you don’t see each other
every day,” Dilanta said.
“Somebody isin a good mood,” Luciana replied playfully.
“I have one of your favorites waiting for you at home,”
Luciana said.

Neman predictably took off towards his home.
He looked back to see his mother and father locking hands
together, and walking towards home. Moments like those were
the only times he saw his father’s calm and gentle side.

Chapter 2 of Destiny Bound

“Mother, what is going to happen tomorrow? I asked
Father and he told me not to outrun my destiny,” Neman
asked as his mother nursed his wound.

“Tomorrow my dear boy is when you become a man. You
have been chosen as one, but the youngest, of many
Pelitans to go into the unforgiving forest. Neman felt his
heart pound twice as fast. Tales of the unforgiving forest
told by his father still rang in his ears: These are a
traditional rite of passage for our young Pelitans. They
taste their knowledge and abilities for thirty days and
nights in the unforgiving forest. It has been described by
many brave hearts including his father as the most
horrifying moments of their lives.

“Why must I leave? Father told me I still have seven more
years before my time comes.” Neman, who was ten years of
age, challenged.

“Because you are special,” Luciana said as she gently
rubbed his head, “you have a far greater destiny ahead
of you.” Neman noticed his mother trying to fight back
tears. “Before you leave, I want you to have this,”
Luciana continued.

She went towards the top of her drawer and brought out
two shiny and identical daggers with handles that have
carvings of eagles.

“These used to be my weapons. Their light weight and
length together with your fast feet would give you an
advantage over your enemies.”

Luciana, now standing in a fight-ready position, held the
dagger with both hands. She made quick spins that made it
difficult for Neman’s eyes to follow.

Suddenly, she joined the weapons together at the bottom
making it a longer double-bladed sword.
Neman watched in amazement as his mother
handled the weapon in a fast and skillful manner.
Although Neman had seen Luciana handle her weapons
several times as one of histrainers, he had never seen her at
her present level. Neman was convinced his father would
not be able to dodge her fast hands.

Luciana halted her motions as she calmly gasped for
air. She then looked back at her son with a smile on her
face.

“I see myself in you every time we train together.” Luciana
said, “You fight just like me and your father combined. You
will be the greatest wind seeker the Pelitans have ever
seen.”

“How do you know that?” Neman asked. “Because I can
see it now.” Luciana said as she demonstrated and made
gestures with her hands “You are so swift that even the
forceful wind would bow at your feet. But there is
something you must know.” “What isit, mother?” Neman
asked.

Luciana walked up to her son and sat by his side.
“I see it best that you find out yourself. Now lay your
head and let me tell you a tale of the creation of man.”
“Once upon a time, seven main gods decided to hold a
meeting after the creation of the first man. The lead God
known by many names but called the divine one by
other gods concluded that man needed a companion.”
Luciana stopped because she heard the sounds of
footsteps coming towards their door.

“Luciana! Come at once. It is happening!” Kras, one of
Dilanta’s friends and fellow Commander shouted as he
busted into the room. Neman watched as his mother
grabbed one of the swords strategically arranged around
the house. Without hesitation or questioning, Luciana got
ready and was about to head off with Kras.a we
“Rest today my dear boy. Tomorrow your journey into
becoming a man begins.” Luciana said as she was about to
exit the house. Neman nodded his reply and off she left.
Neman was not surprised at why his parents were not
around because it was a familiar occurrence. Neman
knew his mother and father were off to battle. He has seen
both of them fight together as one before.

According to his training, he knew his mother attacked
while relying on his father to defend for her; a battle
formation based on perception, speed, skill, and mostly
trust.

Together they are strong like the battle god himself,’
Neman recalled what Ragan, the Pelitan lead warrior,
described his mother and father while in the battle zone.

Chapter 3
Destiny Bound- Love in War by Olamide Ojo

“Behind you,” Luciana whispered loudly to Dilanta, who was right
beside her and the other Pelitans who fought off the dark warriors.
Dilanta looked behind him and saw a large beastly looking
Tenebrous heading straight towards him. As the Tenebrous soldier
got a little closer, he swung his heavy and long sword towards
them, Dilanta dodged by bending forward, thereby allowing
Luciana to use his back like a boulder so that she could jump high
enough to smite.

As she was falling downwards in a form that allowed her to hold
her sword above her head, the Tenebrous warrior attempted to slice
her down immediately. Luciana succeeded in distracting the
Tenebrous man, thereby allowing Dilanta to drive his blade into the
soldier’s heart. He screamed in agony but still stood upright.
Dilanta and Luciana charged at him at once to engage him in
combat. Luciana and Dilanta both attacked in a stylish footwork
that allowed them to move simultaneously and fast. They both
smashed the Tenebrous’s head in a final blow.

As the two outstanding warriors killed the beast, they decided to go
and help Ragan, the leader of the Pelitans, and Kras, a brave
warrior and friend.

As they ran towards Ragan, Dilanta sharply noticed an arrow
heading towards Luciana’s direction.

Dilanta pushed Luciana out of the way of the poisonous arrow, as
all of the Tenebrous arrows were poisoned. His attempt to dodge
the shot was futile. The arrow pierced deep into his gut. Dilanta fell
to his knees from the pain.

Shocked as can be, Luciana moved towards Dilanta who fell to his
knees.

“Your beauty alone storms the breath right out of me.” He said as
he gave up the ghost.

“This is not the end,” Luciana who was filled with indescribable
rage and dismay said. As soon as she said that, a tall and slenderlooking Tenebrous slowly walked towards her.

“Hello Lucil, it’s been a while.” Luciana recognized his voice and
knew immediately who it was; Kadrin, the Tenebrous king.
“The gift was meant for your heart, not his gut,” Kadrin said coldly
and calmly.

Luciana saw the bow in his right hand. She grabbed Dilanta’s
sword and charged at him with all the force of the wind she could
seek, but Kadrin was too strong for her. Her defense was too weak
for her shield, Dilanta had fallen.

She kept fighting as fast as she could and Kadrin kept defending
himself with unending strength. As if Kadrin had enough, he
forcefully hit her with the pommel of his sword. Luciana fell.
Luciana dragged herself towards Dilanta’s body.

“I will spare your miserable life if you agree to come with
me.” Kadrin said. He waited for a reply and got none.
Kadrin became angry and wanted to thrust his sword right into
Luci’s heart when a sidekick backed by the wind made him miss. It
was Kadrin’s worst nightmare, Ragan, the strongest of all the
Pelitans and the most skillful wind seeker.

“You will regret this!” Ragan said as he charged towards Kadrin
with the foot movement that allowed him to gather enough wind
force to match Kadrin’s strength. Ragan successfully thrust his
blade towards Kadrin’s heart. It did not go through Kadrin’s heart
because of his armor. Kadrin counter-attacked with a deadly force
and the two beastly warriors fought with motivation that comes
from an intensified hatred of one another.

“You know you cannot defeat me.” Kadrin spoke when he could,
“My kingdom is now twice the size it was before. Join me and
maybe I will spare your life when my whole army comes raining
down on you. This is just a training practice for my personal bodyguards!”
“You are just afraid you will lose” Ragan replied “You are right to
be, you slimy, disgusting excuse for a King!”
“I am Kadrin. Even the battle god himself fears me!” Kadrin
shouted with anger as he charged at Ragan.
Ragan’s wind-seeking skills proved efficient enough to defend
against the Tenebrous king.
“Soon enough, I will enslave you all!” Kadrin said as he engaged
Ragan, “I shall make you my servant if you survive!”
“I will feed your head to lions of the seas! We are the Pelitans and
just like the wind, we live free!” Ragan replied with the same
intensity while the two men fought like gods.

Kadrin pushed Ragan away from him and quickly stepped
backward into the comfort of his men who never
wandered too far away from him. They got especially closer when
they saw their king fighting the Pelitan warrior, Ragan.
“Till the day we meet again vermin! When it comes, I will not be
this merciful.” Kadrin said as he called for his ride, a monstrously
modified horse, and rode away.

Ragan quickly went up to Luciana as soon as Kadrin was out of his
view but he was too late. He saw Luciana lying right next to
Dilanta, with both locking hands, and facing each other. It was a
sad day for all Pelitans.
